Is Alkalizing the Body Important?
Alkalizing the body is a hot topic today with opinions abounding everywhere leading to a lot of confusion. Let me help you cut to the chase with some important facts.
First of All – Why is Body pH Even Important?
Before we get into the nitty gritty of answering the above question, let’s do a quick overview of what acid and alkaline even mean. These terms come from basic chemistry which teach about the pH scale. The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14. The numbers ranging from 1 up to 7 represent an acidic value. A pH of 7 is considered to be neutral while above 7 up to 14 represent an alkaline (or base) value. The term pH simply means “potential hydrogen.”
So, anything that we consume (whether in food or liquid) that is acidic has more hydrogen ions. These acidic items gradually rob the body of oxygen and eventually makes the cells and tissues of the body acidic. On the other end of the spectrum the items we consume that are alkaline provide an abundance of antioxidants which do the opposite. Antioxidants provide extra electrons that are available to combat free radicals that damage our cells. The antioxidants help our body to maintain optimal blood pH of 7.365 which leads to higher oxygen levels. (Throughout the body different parts have optimal pH ranges. For the purpose of this article we are focusing on the blood pH.)
What Leads to Acidity?
Basically, everything we do contributes to an acid imbalance. The air we breathe, the food we eat, and almost everything we drink leads to an acid environment. For example, meat, dairy, refined and processed foods which make up so much of the American diet are very acidic. Regarding drinks almost everything is acidic. This includes alcohol, sports and energy drinks, coffee and tea, fruit juices that are not freshly squeezed and many bottled waters (especially reverse osmosis and distilled waters).
Unfortunately, the above diet represents how most of America eats. This lifestyle leads to a very acidic environment inside of the body. When this happens, the cells within our body get less oxygen. Soon, our energy levels drop and we get heartburn, acid reflux, joint pain, premature aging, weight gain, increased risk to diabetes, cancer and auto immune diseases. The list goes on and on.
The answer that modern medicine primarily relies on to treat these issues is to pop a pill. The problem with this approach is that it only tends to treat the symptoms, not the underlying cause. Also, adding drugs to the body can lead to a toxic overload creating new problems. If the underlying cause is an acidic imbalance, in other words, the environment of the body is out of whack, a completely different approach is needed. The internal environment needs to change.
What can we do to help our body’s blood level get in the correct pH range? One of the key things is make a change in what we eat and drink.

What is the Best Water?
I believe Kangen Water is the very best water we can drink. It is a medical grade alkalized ionized water. The water goes through an electrolysis unit where energy is added. The alkaline minerals naturally occurring in the water (sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium) receive a charge. This result produces water that is alkaline rich and full of anti-oxidants. The water also has a reduced surface tension which encourages absorption in the cells of the body. With higher absorption, the cells of the body can more properly get cleaned out releasing toxic acidic waste. When cells hold onto acidic waste, they break down more quickly leading to disease.

It is important to understand that when we first start drinking water that is easily absorbed into the cells of our body, toxins will be released. This process is called detoxing. This is a healthy process, but it is one that does not necessarily feed good. How Much Water Should I Be Drinking?
There is a protocol to drinking this water. First of all, we need to drink enough of it. We should be drinking at least half our body weight in ounces. The person who weight pounds should drink minimally 75 ounces per day. Secondly, it is important to make sure we drink off of a machine that has been properly maintained. If a machine has a build-up of minerals, it will not produce quality water.
Third, when we drink water is important. We should drink water before and in between meals, not with our meals. After eating, we should wait about 45 minutes to drink again. When we drink water with our meals it complicates the digestive process. This is true of all water, not just Kangen Water. Finally, it is important to say goodbye to other acidic drinks as they will undo the benefits of the Kangen Water.
There are other lifestyle changes we can make to help our body come into a proper pH range. However, to get the biggest bang for our time, effort and energy to increase our overall health and wellness, simply changing the quality of the water we drink is the best thing we can do!
